The inception of SP3.
This
project started in 2006. More than 11000 CV’s were received from Kazakhstan’s
students, but only 1600 candidates were offered to pass series of tough
aptitude tests out of which 323 were enrolled in a three-year course.
Disciplines
According
to exhaustive survey around the Company the number of vacancies for Agip KCO
onshore and offshore facilities and the number of trainees respectively was
estimated. Variety of specialists, including HSE, Engineering, Procurement,
ICT, Process and Maintenance, and Construction, graduated from ATC.
The Course
The
three-year course was divided into four basic sections: the English language
course, the Transition Course, Basic Discipline Knowledge course (BDK) and
Technical training. The English language course is absolutely vital, as it is
the key to benefiting from international knowledge and expertise about the
world oil industry. In the course of their studies and further training, the
participants had to interact with and learnt from experts from all over the
world, and knowing English unlocked countless doors for them. The Transition
Course which followed includes Technical English geared to various specialties,
HSE and "Soft Skills” – which includes business ethics and approaches to teamwork
and negotiation. The trainees then took a two-month course entitled Business
Discipline Knowledge which gave information on key subjects to do with the oil
and gas industry, such as chemistry and physics; but which also included
finance-related subjects such as economic theory and accountancy. The next
stage was the nine-month technical training course, which saw the participants
divided according to their various specialties. This involved lectures as well
as assignments in custom-equipped labs and technical workshops, as well as
special presentations from quest lecturers.
Facilities
Very
experienced technical experts with outstanding skills in International Oil and
Gas Industry worked among ATC instructors. In addition to this, ATC building
had high-quality technical facilities, including production simulators and
chemical labs. Personnel of ATC were continuously looking for new improvements
and revised existing methods and ways of conducting training. For instance,
instructors of English language used auxiliary means like English TV channels,
movies, documentaries and visual language lessons.
Training
materials included multimedia laboratory systems, which contributed to English
language learning. The software used included a system of "language labs” from
educational institutions in the past. This software is still in use. Classroom
equipped with the system looks like a PC room. The system also includes
facilities which allowed using previous learning materials, records of tapes
and files gathered by instructors.
Managing
staff of ATC thought how to transfer other training modules in order to help
trainees’ self-study. In addition to teaching in ATC, students were proposed
study abroad and participate in different kind of seminars.
Other
Everyday
students acquired loads of information and high demands were placed on them.
The trainees relaxed by taking part in variety of sport activities. The SP 3
trainees participated in two Agip KCO’s football tournament and SP3 trainees
had own rock band, who performed their songs at various parties. Chess were also
played.
This project gave great opportunities for the trainees in their future, gave excellent specialists for Agip KCO company and Kazakhstan. As special projects continue hopes for development of Kazakhstan oil and gas industry become true.
